
Barbara Foote Moritz January 16, 1949 - October 28, 2025
Barbara Foote Moritz of Orange departed this life on October 28, 2025 in the presence of her loving family at her home of 33 years.
“Barb” was born in Summit, NJ to her late parents, Dorothy King Foote and J. Howard Foote. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and taught preschool in Overland Park Kansas for 6 years. Barb shared most of her life with her best friend and husband, Dr. Ernest D Moritz. In addition to her husband she is survived by her beloved children, Jane Erin Moritz and Michael Caldwell Moritz (Kelly Moritz), and two cherished grandchildren, Noah Ernest Moritz and Chloe Belle Moritz. She is also survived by a sister, Katharine Foote Wilhelm (Ralph Wilhelm) of Indianapolis, IN and a brother, John H. Foote (Kristen Rupert) of Watertown, MA.

Barb was a member of Orange Congregational church for 43 years, and was active at the church on a variety of boards, committees and service groups. She served on the Renovation Committee for a major church project, and co-founded Angel Food Express, providing members food assistance in times of need. Barb also served on the board of the Orange Visiting Nurse Association, and was active in parent-teacher organizations throughout her children’s years in the Orange schools. She volunteered at FISH of New Haven for many years.
Barb’s hobbies included designing and creating greeting cards and other craft items. She had a reputation for excellence in cooking and baking, and was famous for her chocolate mint brownies, a local holiday favorite. Gardening and floral design were also activities at which Barb excelled. She was known for her faithful correspondence and encyclopedic knowledge of birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other key dates in the lives of family and friends. Barb’s life mantra was “Joy and Gratitude” and she epitomized the values of faith, family, and friends.

She lived each day as an opportunity to bring light, happiness and comfort to those around her, and was a humble servant of many in need. Barb had a great sense of humor and a smile which lit up a room. She shared happiness and joy in many ways, and was a model of selflessness, sincerity and kindness.
A memorial service will be held at Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meetinghouse Lane at noon on November 15, 2025. Calling hours at the church will precede the service, starting at 10:30am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be made to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Jane Doe No More or the charity of your choice.
