'Barricaded' New Haven Man 'Coaxed' Out Of Howard Ave. Address After Displaying Handgun During Fight: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT — Cops were called to a "fight" between a man and a woman in the overnight hours Monday on Howard Avenue, where, police said, the man "displayed a handgun."

When officers got to the 600-block location at around 1:30 a.m., neither the man nor the woman was found, but police said they "identified the residence" where the two lived.

Police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart said a perimeter was set up, and the New Haven Police Department SWAT and crisis negotiator teams were mobilized at around 7:45 a.m. Monday

"Crisis negotiators were able to coax" Jaquan Toles, 27, out of the house, and he was taken into custody without further incident, Bruckhart said.

Toles was charged with second-degree breach of peace. Bruckhart said a search warrant for the house "will be executed and further charges may result."

According to court records, and police, Toles has 17 outstanding warrants for failing to appear for various court cases, the bonds of which total over $450,000.
