Bicyclist Dies During Annual Cancer Fundraising Ride

A 58-year-old man died during the annual "Closer To Free" ride that raises money for cancer research and patient care.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A bicyclist died Saturday during the annual "Closer To Free" fundraising ride for cancer research, according to a statement from Yale New Haven Hospital.

The bicyclist was only identified as a 58-year-old man.

"Yale New Haven Hospital and the Closer to Free bike ride family were saddened to learn of the sudden passing of a 58 year old male rider during this morning's annual ride," the statement said. "No other details are available at this time"

Funds raised during the annual ride go towards patient care and research at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center.
