UPDATE: Fatal Christmas Eve New Haven Shooting Victim ID'd By Police

NEW HAVEN, CT — UPDATE: The victim of the homicide has been identified as Heriberto Cotto, 43, of New Haven.

A New Haven man was shot and killed Christmas Eve following an argument, police said.

It was around 8 p.m., Tuesday night, when cops got "multiple 911 calls" about a person shot, New Haven police posted to "X."

When patrol officers got to the area of Edgewood Avenue and Beers Street, they found a 43-year-old man "unresponsive with evident gunshot wounds." Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, he was pronounced dead. His identity is not being released until his family is located, police noted.

Investigators found ballistic evidence in the street and the victim's car and learned the man had just "arrived in the area just prior to the incident." Police said the man was "involved in an argument with another individual before being shot."
