7 Construction Workers Trapped In College St., Exterior Elevator Prompted MLK, Legion, College Closures

Workers struck seven stories up at 102 College St., but before firefighters could affect a rope rescue, a technician got elevator moving.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Please be advised that there is fire department activity near the intersection of Legion Ave, College Street and MLK Blvd that requires road closures please expect delays and avoid this area if possible.

In a post to "X," by the New Haven Fire Department at around 3 p.m. that construction workers stuck in an exterior elevator at 101 College St."

According to Assistant Fire Chief Daniel Coughlin, "seven workers were trapped on the 7th floor."

"We set up for a full scale rope rescue however, an elevator tech arrived and was able to get it going," he told Patch.

There were no injuries, he said.

Traffic reopened at around 4:10 p.m., "however, there will be delays due to the volume of back up," Coughlin said.
