Cops SVU Unit Sgt. Lauded For Sexual Violence Survivors Trauma Support

NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven police Sergeant Cherelle D. Carr, the NHPD's Special Victims Unit supervisor, was recognized by the Women & Families Center for Sexual Assault for her compassion and dedication to victims of sexual assault.

The SVU detectives concentrate their efforts on cases of domestic violence, crimes against children, and victims of sexual assault.

Carr, who leads the unit, was presented with the honor at the Women & Families Center's annual Sexual Assault Awareness Vigil in Meriden Monday.

During the ceremony, Carr was highlighted and awarded for her service, hard-work and dedication to victims of sexual assault, New Haven police posted on Facebook.

"Congratulations and thank you, Sergeant Carr for all that you do," police wrote.

Sgt. Carr's plaque reads:

"In honor of your dedication to trauma-sensitive support for survivors of sexual violence.
With deep gratitude, we recognize Sergeant Cheryl D. Carr of the New Haven Police Department for your compassion and efforts to build a safer, more secure, more supportive community."
