Court Upholds $2 Million Penalty Against United Illuminating
A Superior Court has upheld the $2 million annual penalty imposed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) against UI.

CONNECTICUT — A Superior Court has upheld the $2 million annual penalty imposed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) against United Illuminating (UI) for failing to remediate contamination at the defunct English Station power plant in New Haven, Attorney General William Tong announced.
“This decision leaves no room for doubt—United Illuminating is obligated to remediate English Station, they haven’t, and now they must confront the serious consequences of their failures,” Tong said.
UI had sought a $130.7 million rate hike, which PURA largely rejected. The company has since appealed the penalty and filed for additional rate increases.
