CT State Community College Gateway Names Its First Campus President
Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D., Gateway's first campus president "brings a strong vision and a deep commitment for education."

NEW HAVEN, CT — CT State Community College Gateway named Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D. as its first campus president.
Wang, who "brings a strong vision and a deep commitment for education," is the first of a cohort of seven campus presidents to join CT State Community College.
"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Wang to CT State Gateway, who will play a vital role in building strong relationships and championing opportunity, access, and achievement across the New Haven community and our state," said CT State’s President O. John Maduko, MD. "Her experience and expertise will be essential in advancing student success, strengthening workforce development, supporting CT State Gateway's talented faculty and staff, and furthering the goals of our proud institution."

Wang served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost at Hostos Community College where she worked to set and advance the college’s vision for academic success.
Before joining Hostos, she served as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Harold Washington College, City Colleges of Chicago. She was also Dean for Research at Queensborough Community College, City University of New York, and Associate Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education at New York Institute of Technology. At NYIT, she was also a Professor and Chair of the Instructional Technology Program. A tenured full professor there, Wang taught both graduate and undergraduate courses and served on numerous professional organization committees.

As a "renowned scholar" in the field of educational technology, she focuses her research on STEM education, cognitive tools and pedagogical practice, according to a CT State Community College news release.
Wang has been invited to present on pedagogical practices for adopting generative artificial intelligence technology at multiple conferences and to conduct workshops. She was recently honored with the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators’ Outstanding Leadership in Education Award and was named to City & State's 2024 Power of Diversity: Asian 100 list, which recognizes Asian leaders who have made significant contributions to New York City.
Wang said she's "incredibly honored" to join CT State Community College Gateway.
"I look forward to building on Gateway’s strong foundation and working collaboratively with our exceptional faculty, staff, students, and community partners to expand opportunities, deepen our impact, and build a shared vision for the future," Wang said.
