New Haven, CT (November 20, 2025) Connecticut State Community College (CT State) Gateway convened its new President’s Advisory Council yesterday, bringing together 40 regional leaders from higher education, government, health care, business, and workforce development to strengthen regional collaboration.
“This council reflects our commitment to making CT State Gateway a hub of opportunity for students and a true partner to the region,” said CT State Gateway campus president Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D. “By working side-by-side with community, civic, and institutional leaders, we can build innovative pathways that benefit both students and the economic vitality of Greater New Haven.”

Hosted on Gateway’s downtown campus, the council explored ways Gateway can align its academic programs, workforce initiatives, and community partnerships to support regional priorities and strengthen opportunities for students. Council members include representatives from Yale University’s Office of New Haven & State Affairs, Southern Connecticut State University, the University of New Haven, Albertus Magnus College, UConn, Quinnipiac University, Yale New Haven Hospital, Workforce Alliance, ConnCAT, United Way of Greater New Haven, the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, the City of New Haven, the City of West Haven, and Connecticut’s Department of Economic and Community Development, among others.
Together, these leaders will serve as a cross-sectional strategic resource and increase opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, transfer pathways, and high-demand careers.
Four subgroups were established and charged with the development of actionable proposals. They will focus on:
· Workforce and Industry Alignment
· Community and Civic Partnerships
· Academic Innovation and Future Skills
· Business and Economic Mobility .
CT State Gateway will convene the advisory council several times throughout the year to assess progress, share updates, and refine strategies based on evolving community and industry needs.
The advisory council comes at a period of growth for Gateway. Credit enrollment reached 6,291 students this fall -- a five percent increase over last year. The campus saw strong gains in retention in in-demand studies including Cybersecurity, Automotive Technology, Engineering Science, and Public Utility Management.
