UPDATE: New Haven Man's 'Suspicious' Death Now Homicide Investigation

Found dead in a Walnut St. apartment after a 911 call by an "extremely distraught​" woman who was hospitalized, was shot: Medical Examiner.

NEW HAVEN, CT —The office of the Chief Medical Examiner's autopsy shows that a man found dead in a Walnut Street apartment, which cops first characterized as "suspicious," was shot, and his death is now ruled a homicide.

The man was identified by police as 57-year-old Russell McKenzie.

When cops got to the Walnut Street residence just after 1 a.m., Wednesday for a report of a person shot, they found a woman in the driveway "extremely distraught," and inside, a dead 57-year-old man, police said.

The woman who had made the 911 call, was found outside the address and, in addition to being distraught, was "having difficulty breathing" so was taken to the hospital "as a precaution," police wrote in a post on "X."

Meanwhile, first responders pronounced the man, a resident of the apartment, dead, police said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner removed the body as the death is being treated as a suspicious "pending the result of an autopsy," police said.
