Domestic Violence Complaint Leads Cops To Man With Outstanding Warrants For Violent Felonies: NHPD

A family member said he pulled a gun, threatened other family after an argument; NHPD SWAT, crisis team were activated, he was arrested.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Saturday, a domestic violence report was made at New Haven police headquarters, where a family member said an "extended family" member pulled out a gun and threatened other family after an argument.

When cops ran a check, they found that Nelson Romero Martinez, 45, had an outstanding first-degree failure to appear warrant stemming from a first-degree assault charge in Bridgeport, as well as a separate New Haven police warrant for first-degree threatening.

"Due to the severity of the incident reported by the victim, and the seriousness of the arrest warrant SWAT and the department's crisis negotiator team were activated in advance, however, officers were able to successfully hail him out of the house without incident," police said.

A search was executed in the house, but no were firearms found, police said.

In addition to the warrants, he was charged with first-degree threatening, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

The bond for the failure to appear warrants was $500,000 and an additional bond of $85,000 was added for the new NHPD charges, court records show.
