Fatal 2-Car Crash At Dixell Ave., Basset St. Under Investigation: PD

At around 9:45 p.m. Monday, police were called to the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Bassett Street for a fatal car crash.

NEW HAVEN, CT —Monday night, a two car crash claimed the life of a motorist, police said.

At around 9:45 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Bassett Street, where a car crash had been reported.

According to New Haven police, a Toyota Sienna traveling south on Dixwell tried to turn onto Bassett as a Nissan Versa, traveling north on Dixwell at the same time, and collided with the Toyota is it entered the intersection.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The driver and passenger of the Siena were also taken to the hospital and were listed in stable condition, police said.

Police haven't named the person who died, nor has a next of kin notification been made.

The police crash reconstruction unit is investigating. Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have information valuable to investigators to call New Haven detectives at 203-946-6304.
