NEW HAVEN, CT —New Haven police posted to Facebook an at once sad, and uplifting, story.

Noting it was "community policing at its finest," on Nov. 14, police officer Trevor Brown responded to a theft complaint from a man with autism.

The man reported that "his sneakers and hat were stolen from him by a group of juveniles on Whalley Avenue."

Brown brought the theft to the attention of district manager Sergeant Lambe, who coordinated with the city’s Office of Youth Services.

This weekend, officers Brown and Evans got to present two new pairs of sneakers to the man.
