Hamden Man, 34, Steals Car In New Haven, Then Causes 4-Car Crash: PD

Police said that the man stole a Honda Accord, with motor running and doors unlocked, then shortly after, caused a four-car rollover crash.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Tuesday night around 6:30, police were called to Davenport Avenue and Orchard Street for the report of a stolen car.

The vehicle, a Honda Accord, had its motor running and doors unlocked, when police said, it was stolen. While investigating the call, officers learned of a four-car rollover collision at Fitch and Crescent streets. When cops got to that scene, they saw a rolled-over vehicle, the Honda which had just been stolen.

The man driving the Honda, Hector Franco Santiago, 34, of Hamden, was detained, police said.

Injuries to Franco Santiago and the other drivers in occupants were minor, police said.

After finding Franco Santiago at fault for the collision, and for "taking the car," police charged him with larceny of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and other traffic-related charges.
