In Heart Of Westville, Family-Owned Businesses Open, Art Shop, Bakery

New in Westville Inkberry Art Shop, open now, and Malby Artisan Bread and Pastries, soft opening Friday at 10 a.m., official opening May 30.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Tuesday in Westville, there was a double ribbon-cutting for two new family-owned businesses to celebrate a double ribbon-cutting for Inkberry Art Shop and Malby Artisan Bread and Pastries. The two stores are next-door neighbors in Westville; Inkberry at 910 Whalley Ave. and Malby Artisan Bread at 912 Whalley Ave.

Artist Katya Vetrov co-owns Inkberry Art Shop with her husband, Chris Killheffer. The store is a vibrant space that showcases handmade goods from 20 local artists and artisans, including a diverse range of artwork, jewelry, pottery, home goods, stationery and cards, and clothing. An active member of New Haven's arts community for 15 years, Vetrov has worked at Long Wharf Theatre, taught art classes at Quinnipiac University and Gateway Community College, and participated in Artwalk and the New Haven Night Market.

Chef Malby Rojas, a Venezuelan immigrant, co-owns Malby Artisan Bread and Pastries, where she handcrafts authentic sourdough and a variety of artisan breads and baked goods as well as specialty Latin American desserts. After working for several years at New Haven restaurants, including the Blake Hotel and Gioia, while also running a home micro bakery.

Rojas partnered with her wife, Dr. Karla Tejada Arias, to open the new storefront location with the support and patronage of the Westville community.
