Hey Local College Students, Free Food Alert: Games, Giveaways, Food As College Night Returns Downtown
Shops at Yale invites area college students to College Night on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Broadway Shopping District.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The Shops at Yale invites all area college students to College Night on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Broadway Shopping District of Downtown New Haven. Rain or shine, students may enjoy an evening packed with food, entertainment, shopping, and prizes.
Students may try free food samples from local restaurants, play games, strike a pose in the J.Crew photobooth (with free prints), dance to music by DJ Mike Martone, get a glitter tattoo, have their fortune read, and snap up exclusive store discounts. At check-in, students may enter to win one of three “Free Pizza for a Year” prizes from Sally’s Apizza.

Free food ticket packs will be available to the first 1,500 students who RSVP online ahead of time and check in on the day of the event on Broadway Island, at 56 Broadway across from Apple, lululemon, and J.Crew. The free food samples will include:
- Slice of cheese pizza from Yorkside Pizza
- Cinnamon sugar churro from Ay Arepa
- Mini Punjabi samosa from Sherkaan Indian Street Food
- Chocolate chip cookie from Cookie39
- Baklava from Habesha Restaurant & Bar
- Mini cupcake from Katalina’s Bakery
- Jasmine iced tea from Junzi Kitchen
Additional local restaurants and cafés will offer special 99-cent and $1.99 deals, including dumplings, tacos, Belgian waffles with coffee, smoothies, and more.
“College Night has become the area’s largest public student event, and we are thrilled to welcome more than 1,500 students this year,” said David DelVecchio, director of real estate asset management at Yale University Properties. “Community events such as College Night promote unity, create vibrancy, generate revenue for local businesses, and help students connect with their surroundings.”
All undergraduate and graduate students from area universities are invited to attend. RSVP is required, and valid student ID will be verified at check-in beginning at 4 p.m. On-site check-in is open until 7 p.m. Free parking is available at the 150 York Street Garage from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a validation stamp at the event (please bring your ticket). College Night is sponsored by the Broadway-York Merchants Association and Yale University Properties.
