Immigrant Group Releases Video Allegedly Showing Masked ICE Agents Detaining Man Downtown Monday

At the corner of Elm and Orange streets Monday afternoon, a man is seen on video being taken into custody on the street by masked agents.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The New Haven Immigrants group posted a video to Facebook that appears to show masked law enforcement agents, including a woman, wearing flak jackets that read: POLICE, with a person on the ground being handcuffed and detained downtown Monday.

Noted to have happened around noon, the video appears to show the incident at the corner of Elm and Orange streets. In it, a black Nissan Altima with opaquely dark-tinted windows is parked at an angle on the curb, right outside of the coffee shop Café Java with the man being taken lying on the street as agents wrangle him into custody.

The New Haven Immigrants Facebook post caption reads: "ICE Arrest in Downtown New Haven 7/28/2025, around noon. A man was detained by ICE today in Downtown New Haven. If you witnessed this or know who he is, please contact us immediately so we can support him and his family."

Patch made calls to ICE, and ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations field officein Massachusetts for details on the ICE action in New Haven, but has been unable to get any information.

The office of Mayor Justin Elicker said it doesn't currently have any "additional information about the alleged incident, and we're inquiring to learn more."
