Judge Gives New Haven Man 25 Years For Raping 2 Children Under Age 10

NEW HAVEN, CT — Guilty of raping two children under age 10, at a minimum, Carlos Gomez will be 90 when released after being sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison, suspended after serving 21 years. Upon release, he'll serve 10 years of sexual offender probation.
The now-69-year-old was found guilty by a jury in March on five counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a child.
According to New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr., the victims and their families were present and spoke at Friday’s sentencing hearing.

Doyle said evidence at trial showed Gomez sexually assaulted the two young children between 2007 and 2012. The two separate cases were joined for a consolidated trial.
The cases were investigated by the New Haven Police Department. The State’s Attorney is grateful to the Department of Children and Families and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Child Abuse Clinic for their assistance. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes and Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah E. Jones, with assistance from Inspector Kevin Grenier.
