Since July 13, New Haven Has Had 11 Shootings With 16 Gunshot Victims
While all shootings were non-fatal and all injuries were "non-life-threatening," NHPD chief said he put more cops on street, arrests coming.

NEW HAVEN, CT — In New Haven since July 13, there have been 11 shootings, with a total of 16 people shot, including a juvenile. And one young child who was evaluated in a pediatric emergency room as gunshots were fired at close-enough range to have "hurt their ears."
All the shootings were non-fatal, thankfully. And all the injuries were described by police as non-life-threatening.

'What's going on?'
The season of the year has something to do with it, according to New Haven Chief of Police Karl Jacobson.
"In general, we know that violence is cyclical, so we expect incidents like shootings to be more prevalent when it's warmer," he noted.
The police chief said the department is "actively working to stem the shootings by putting extra officers and detectives in the affected areas, which has already produced results."
Wednesday, following an "attempted shooting on Kimberly Avenue, plain clothes detectives quickly located the alleged shooter and arrested Anthony Davis, also recovering the gun he used," Jacobson said.
It was just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, when cops were called to the area of Kimberly Avenue and Lamberton Street on the report of a person shot. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate a victim. They were able to locate video which captured the incident, as did cameras from the Real Time Crime Center. Based on the video, it appeared the suspect attempted to shoot an individual who has not been identified. A short time later, detectives located a male matching the description of the suspect and detained him. Using RTCC cameras, they were able to track the movements of the suspect, ultimately locating a .380 caliber handgun which had a spent casing stuck in it.
Anthony Davis, 62, of New Haven was charged with a number of felonies and firearm related charges.

"We have also made arrests in several recent shootings and homicides and expect to announce those soon," he noted.
The New Haven Police Department partners with Project Longevity, the Mayor's Office of gun violence prevention, Clifford Beers, and "other entities to help stop the violence," he said.
And the omnipresent clarion call: "We also encourage anyone in the community who may have information about these incidents to contact detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department's anonymous tip-line at 866-888-8477."
