Jury Convicts New Haven Man On Illegal Firearms Charges: State's Atty

Cops stopped the man driving a white Acura with the plates of a Gray Ford Taurus and found a "loaded 9 mm gun in a fanny pack:" Prosecutor.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven Superior Court jury found Timothy Wilfong, 36, of New Haven, guilty on three firearms and other charges, New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr. announced Monday.

Wilfong was found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Pistol or Revolver, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Interfering with an Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and a motor vehicle charge, Doyle said.

According to Doyle and evidence introduced at trial, on Jan. 18, 2024, following information from a confidential informant, New Haven police officers attempted to stop Wilfong as he was driving a white Acura with license plates belonging to a Gray Ford Taurus.

"When police attempted to address the violation, Wilfong ran from police in an attempt to avoid arrest. Police apprehended Wilfong and found a loaded 9 mm firearm in a fanny pack around Wilfong’s chest," Doyle said, noting that as a convicted felon, Wilfong is prohibited from possessing a firearm. Cops also found "a container of cocaine on his person," Doyle said.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 1 in New Haven Superior Court.
