UPDATE: 19-Year-Old Shot Multiple Times Sunday Night Dies: PD
At 8:20 p.m. on Downes Street between Congress and Columbus avenues, multiple shots fired from a car stuck Jovani Ortiz of New Haven: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT —A 19-year-old was found with multiple gunshot wounds Sunday night in the area of Downes Street between Columbus and Congress avenues, police said. Just before 8:30 p.m., cops got a Stotspotter alert followed by a report of a gunshot victim, police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr said.
Though rendered aid by first responders, the teen was initially taken to the Yale New Haven Hospital main campus on York Street in critical condition, Carr said.
Late Monday morning, Carr said the teen died. She identified him as Jovani Ortiz.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification gathered evidence,
interviewed witnesses, and searched for surveillance footage, Carr said, adding ballistic evidence was found on scene.
Investigators learned that a vehicle fled from the scene after the gunshots was heard, she said.
