NEW HAVEN, CT —A 48-year-old New Haven man was charged with murder in connection with a fatal weekend stabbing, police said.

At just after 1 a.m., Saturday, Yale Protective Services at St. Raphael’s Hospital notified the New Haven Police Department of a walk-in victim with a gunshot wound, according to police spokesperson Christian Bruckhart. But, it turned out that 47-year-old Travis James, unresponsive and in critical condition, had been stabbed, not shot, Bruckhart. James, who had been dropped off at the hospital by private vehicle, died from his injuries, authorities said.

Investigators learned that James had been at Sam’s Mart on Whalley Avenue when he got into an argument with, at the time, was an "unknown individual," Bruckhart said. "The altercation escalated, and James was stabbed, and then driven to the hospital."
