Man Shot In Back, Found Inside Crashed SUV Dies: Police

Detectives believe the shooting was targeted, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A man died after he was shot in the back and found inside a crashed SUV on Saturday in New Haven, according to police.

Authorities received multiple 911 calls shortly after 2 p.m. about a single-vehicle rollover near Russell Street and Highview Lane, police said. Cedric Goodwin, 35, of New Haven, was unresponsive inside the Honda CR-V with a gunshot wound to the back, according to police, who said he was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital and died.

Detectives believe that Goodwin was targeted and that there is no ongoing public danger, police said, adding ballistic evidence was found in the road near the scene of the crash.
