Man, 31, Fatally Gunned Down Outside Local Business, New Haven Police Say
City's 5th murder in 17 days, Briquann Chapman came out of Real Ryte smoke shop when he was shot at close range in a targeted attack: NHPD.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Just before 2 p.m. Monday, with the Labor Day races just having ended, cops were called to Chapel and Ellsworth for a shots fired report. When officers got there, they found a "crime scene on the sidewalk, including spent shell casings and narcotics."
Cops then learned that a gunshot victim was being transported by private vehicle to the Saint Raphael campus of Yale New Haven Hospital, which is just a few blocks away from the scene of the crime.
Briquann Chapman, 31, was the gunshot victim, and he was soon transferred to the main YNHH campus on York Street where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Based on the initial police investigation, according to spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart, Chapman was inside Real Ryte smoke shop and after leaving the store, "was approached by an unknown person who shot him at close range in and what appears to be a targeted attack."
Police asked that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department anonymous tip line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
