NEW HAVEN, CT — On the early morning of July 19, 2024, the body of 62-year-old Miquel Rivera of New Haven was found face down in a stream in the area of Hemingway and Eastern streets. Police and firefighters responded and the latter declared him dead.

At first, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner made a "preliminary examination at the scene and initially found no signs of trauma." Rivera's body was taken into custody by the NE and after an autopsy, the medical examiner ruled the cause of death as strangulation, and the manner of his death was deemed a homicide.

The case was assigned to New Haven Police Department Detective Marcin Podsiad of the Major Crimes Unit, who secured arrest warrants for two people: Anthony Horvath-Rodriguez, 28, of Naugatuck and Ana Gonzalez, 38, of New Haven.

Both have been charged with Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Murder in the Commission of a Felony and Robbery in the 2 nd Degree. Horvath-Rodriguez and Gonzalez were taken into custody and are being held on $2 million bail each.

Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., the Chief of Police and Mayor Justin Elicker, joined by Rivera's family, hold a news briefing on the case.
