New Haven 16-Year-Old Boy Shot Late Monday Night: NHPD

It was just before 11:30 p.m. Monday night when officers were called to the area of Elm St. and Winthrop Ave. for a report of a shooting: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven teen was shot and wounded late Monday night, police said.

The New Haven Police Department posted on "X" that it was just before 11:30 p.m. when officers were called to the area of Elm and Winthrop streets for a report of a "person shot."

Officers found a 16-year-old boy who had suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, police said.

According to police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart, the teen was also found to have a pistol, "although the wound did not appear to be self-inflicted."

The teen told cops he was "riding his bicycle on Winthrop Avenue when he saw an unknown male walking on the sidewalk and heard gunshots."
