The bar announced the closure on social media and ensured its loyal customers the business "was a labor of love, your love."

NEW HAVEN, CT — A popular downtown cocktail bar has closed its doors for good after 17 years in business.

The owners of 116 Crown, named after the bar's address, announced the closure Monday afternoon in a message posted to social media.

"Everything ends," the message reads. "That was it. We are so proud to end with an eye to change in our seventeenth year."

Located at 116 Crown Street, the high-end bar and lounge first opened in 2007.

Advertised as "Connecticut's premier cocktail bar," their menu aptly boasted an extensive selection of cocktails ranging from a classic martini to unique offerings like the Jolly Roger (made with bourbon and passion fruit puree).

The restaurant also served a variety of food options, including a raw bar, appetizers and snacks, charcuterie and entrees such as hangar steak and shepherd's pie.

In their message to customers, the owners thanked their loyal customers for all their support over the past 17 years.

"You are the reason it wasn't impossible," the message reads. "You are the reason we went and went, instead of came and went. This restaurant was a labor of love, your love. A small coterie will never forget your unlimited support, love, (and let’s face it, a little bit of) tolerance...you have been perfect. You have been too much. You have been something else."

A 2013 New York Times review noted the food at 116 Crown "harmonizes with the drinks" while the menu offered a number of "winning appetizers."

"We have been lucky to know almost all of you. And this is who that is for. A large hearted and insufficient thank you," the bar's message reads. "As always: there are surprises in store for this little piece of the world that you have made so special. Don’t miss it."
