New Haven Jury Finds Leon Guerrero Guilty Of 2023 Murder: Prosecutor
In April 2023, Tayna Rodriguez, 26, was nearby a fight on Saltonstall Ave. involving 3 men, one of whom was Guerrero, and was fatally shot.
NEW HAVEN, CT —A New Haven Superior Court jury Wednesday found Leon Guerrero, 31, guilty of murder in connection with a 2023 fatal shooting, according to John P. Doyle Jr., State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven.
According to evidence introduced at trial, Guerrero shot the victim, Tayna Rodriguez, 26, in New Haven on April 23, 2023. Guerrero was fighting with two other men on Saltonstall Avenue when Rodriguez, who'd gotten out of a car and began walking toward the scene, was struck by gunfire.
It was just after 1 a.m., when a 911 call came in from a man who told dispatchers he'd just shot someone. When cops got there, Guerrero had his hands up and surrendered to police.

The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory Borrelli and Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes, who were assisted by Inspector Michael Mastropetre.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 26 in New Haven Superior Court.
