New Haven Man, 38, A Federal Parolee, Faces Gun, Drug Charges: Police

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man who is a federal parolee is facing local charges of gun possession and heroin possession, police said.

On Thursday morning, police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr said cops tried to stop a Kia in the area of Congress Avenue and Downes Street that fled with the driver bailing out of the car into another. Police would later find the car abandoned and were able to stop the car he jumped into, she said.

Kenneth Sturdivant, 38, "admitted to fleeing from the police because he believed he had a warrant," Carr said.

Police K-9 searched the immediate area of where the Kia vehicle was found, and located a 9mm handgun, and a box containing a large amount of heroin, Carr said.

Sturdivant was charged with possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, interfering with the police, third-degree trespassing and reckless driving, police said.
