New Haven Man, 47, Gets 55-Year Prison Term For 2023 Fatal Shooting: Court

Ronald Little was sentenced for the fatal shooting of Michael Wint, 33, of New Haven, in January 2023.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Ronald Little, 47, of New Haven, was sentenced to serve 55 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of Michael Wint, 33, of New Haven, in January 2023, John P. Doyle Jr., State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven, announced.

On May 23, a New Haven Superior Court jury found Little guilty of murder, court records show.

According to Doyle, and evidence introduced at trial, Little shot and killed Wint, who was sitting in a car on Whalley Avenue.

In a Patch story on the fatal shooting from January 2023, the then-police spokesperson said cops were inside the Sam's Mart at 285 Whalley Ave., at around 1 a.m., when a citizen ran into the store to report a man had been shot "while sitting inside a white sedan across the street."

Wint was found wounded in a vehicle catty-corner from the mart at the intersection of Sherman and Whalley avenues, home to several shops. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Wint was pronounced dead, police said at the time. The incident was a double-shooting, police said, as another man "walked into the hospital" with gunshot wounds to his lower back and stomach shortly after. At the time, police said the preliminary investigation indicated that the two shootings are related, and noted two guns were found at the scene.

Doyle said there was "no argument or precipitating event for the murder."

Previously convicted of a felony, Little was prohibited under state law from possessing firearms.

He was also found guilty in a separate proceeding, which Doyle said was "tried to the court," of three firearm violations.

The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department and was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorneys Charles Johnson and Melissa Holmes, who were assisted by Inspector Sean Faughnan.

Doyle extended his "condolences to the Wint family and his gratitude to the New Haven Police Department for their investigative efforts."
