NEW HAVEN, CT — A Superior Court judge sentenced a 57-year-old New Haven man to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl, but suspended the sentence after he serves four years, according to New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr.

After he serves that time, Charles Bellino will serve 10 years of sexual offender probation, and the judge ordered him to register as a sexual offender for 10 years after his release, Doyle said.

According to Doyle, in March, a jury found Bellino guilty of one count of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. Evidence at trial showed Bellino inappropriately touched a 13-year-old female in a sexual manner in July 2020, Doyle said.

"This office will prosecute, in order to hold accountable, those who commit horrific acts against all members of our society, particularly young people,” Doyle was quoted as saying in a news release, adding he hoped the sentence "Will aid the victim, who will shortly graduate from high school, in her continued recovery with the knowledge that the defendant has been brought to justice for his crime."
