New Haven Man, Pedestrian On Downtown Street, Police Say, Was Struck, Killed Wednesday Night: NHPD

When cops got to the scene at 30 Orange Ave., they found the 46-year-old pedestrian "in the roadway suffering from apparent injuries:" PD.

NEW HAVEN, CT — On Thanksgiving Eve just before 7:30 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, and killed, on Orange Avenue, police said.

According to New Haven police, when cops got to the crash scene near 30 Orange Ave., they found Luis Acevedo, 46, whose last known address was New Haven, "still in the roadway suffering from apparent injuries."

Ambulance and fire personnel arrived and pronounced him deceased, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Acevedo stayed on the scene and cooperated with police, a spokesperson said.

"The initial investigation suggests the pedestrian was at fault for the collision as he was in the roadway at the time of the collision," police wrote in a news release posted to "X."

The department's Accident Reconstruction Team responded and is investigating. Acevedo's next-of-kin was notified of his death, police said.
