New Haven Murder, Armed Robbery Down 30%, Some Violent Crime Rates Up
In 2024, homicides, robbery, car theft, shots-fired, gun violations went down, non-fatal shootings, assaults, drug arrests up since 2023.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The year-end crime statistics from the New Haven Police Department tell a story. Albeit a convoluted one, as some violent crime numbers fell dramatically since 2024, as other violent crimes incidents went up, way up in some cases.
The number of homicide victims in 2024, 14, went down by 30 percent. But the number of firearm assault victims, and the number of assaults generally, went up, with the former up more than 18 percent and the latter up over 15 percent.

During a news briefing on crime this week, police, and city admit that while progress is being made, there's a lot of work yet to do.
"There are a lot of things we're still struggling with, but there are a lot of positives we see here," New Haven Chief of Police Karl Jacobson said. "Overall, we're moving in the right direction."
