NEW HAVEN, CT — Monday morning, New Haven police detectives assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit spotted a stolen Audi Q7 in the area of Diamond and Dyer streets, and recognized it as having previously run from cops.

While watching the unoccupied car stolen from Westport, soon detectives eyed an Audi A5 — also stolen —with a "misused" license plate, parked directly next to the Q7, police said in a news release posted to social media.

One of the people in the A5 got out and then got into the Q7 and as "detectives moved in" the A5 sped away, but, police said, not before the driver was recognized by cops as Claymont Arrington, 18 of New Haven.

Then, the driver of the Q7, later identified as Darnell Scurry, 19, of New Haven, "also attempted to flee, striking one of the detectives' vehicles, and a tree before giving up," police said, adding that there were no injuries.

A short time later, police said, Arrington was found in the area of Jackson Boulevard and Brookview Circle.

Scurry, charged with theft of a motor vehicle and failure to obey an officer signal and Arrington, charged with theft of a motor vehicle, reckless driving and interfering with an officer, were both held on $50,000 bond, police said late Monday.
