New Haven Woman Charged In 2024 Homicide Of 57-Year-Old Man: NHPD
Nearly 5 months after the Dec. 4. shooting death of Russell McKenzie, police charged a 36- year-old woman with 1st-degree manslaughter: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 36-year-old New Haven woman has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of 57-year-old Russell McKenzie in December 2024, police said.
Eileen Marrero also faces gun charges and is being held on $1 million bail, court records show.
On Dec. 4, just after 1 a.m. police were called to a Walnut Street address for a report of a person shot. When they got there, they encountered the "caller outside the residence."

"She was extremely distraught and having difficulty breathing," police said at the time., and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital "as a precaution."
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

New Haven police Major Crimes Detective Anthony Magnano secured the warrant for Marrero's arrest. She was taken into custody April 25 and is due in court May 14.
New Haven Chief of Police Karl Jacobson, police command staff and Mayor Justin Elicker will hold a news briefing Wednesday at 1 p.m., at NHPD headquarters.
