Obituary: Anthony Youngblood Oden, 49, of New Haven

Anthony was known for his devotion to loved ones, selflessness, genuine heart and affinity for his favorite sports teams.

NEW HAVEN, CT - (From Colonial Funeral Home) Anthony Youngblood Oden, 49, of New Haven, CT son of the late James E. Oden and Margaret Oden (Thrasher). Anthony was born on December 5, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York.

As a youth, he and his family moved to New Haven, CT where he attended Lincoln Bassett, Jackie Robinson and Hillhouse High School. On June 15, 2022, a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend passed away leaving us here to mourn a life that ended too soon.

He loved his family and would do anything for them. He has touched so many lives with his kindness, humor and willingness to help all that crossed his path.

During his short time with us, he was never selfish and gave freely because of his genuine heart.

He loved sports and you would often catch him out in his purple and yellow supporting the Vikings and during basketball season, going hard for the Bulls. He represented his teams to the fullest every season.

His life will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Anthony was predeceased by his father, James E. Oden, his daughter, Toni Monique Oden, his paternal grandparents, James C. Oden (Buster) and Lillie Belle Oden, his maternal grandparents William Rayford Sr. and Rosa Lee Rayford and uncles William Rayford Jr. and David Rayford.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Ann Oden of New Haven, former wife Renee Horner (Oden) of West Haven, sisters Teresa D. Green of West Haven and April M. Oden of New Haven, brother Perry Chatman of New Haven, nephews William A. Green of West Haven, Wes Anthony Green of West Haven, Justin A. DePonte of West Haven and Jonathan O. Clarke of New Haven as well as his niece Alexis M. Clarke (Green) of New Haven, great nephew Antonio L. Bolt of New Haven and great niece Bailey R. Clarke of New Haven.

He also leaves to mourn him in his untimely passing a great number of family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Macedonia Church of God in Christ, 151 New Hall Street, New Haven from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a public viewing being held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and repass directly to follow.
