Obituary: Derrick Woodberry, 41, of New Haven
Derrick was known for his quiet, gentle spirit, his sense of humor, love of cooking and dedication and devotion to family.

NEW HAVEN, CT - (From Colonial Funeral Home) Derrick Woodberry, 41, the beloved son of Sartara Woodberry and David Thomas passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, after a brief illness.
Born on December 30, 1980, Derrick was a native of New Haven, Connecticut. He was educated in the New Haven school system and graduated from Hillhouse High School. He was employed by Aaron Security as a Security Officer.
Derrick was a devoted son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. He was a family man. Although he had a quiet, gentle spirit, Derrick had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Making time for family was always a priority to him.
Cooking was also one of his favorites, especially when it came to making his grilled steak with plenty of onions and home fries. He was a beautiful young man who will be greatly missed by all he encountered.
Besides his loving parents, Derrick is survived by his sister LaQuita Preston, and brother MarQuet Gary of New Haven; aunts Kim (Jerome Salters) Thomas, and Diane Christie all ofNew Haven; uncles, Thomas Woodberry of South Carolina and Richard (Renee Barrows) Thomas of New Haven; and his girlfriend LaTasha Moore of Fort Worth, Texas.
He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
A celebration of Derrick’s life will be held on Wednesday May 25, 2022 at 11am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am.
