Obituary: Dr. Yi-An Sun, PhD., 84, of New Haven

Dr. Yi worked in research at Yale in the Department of Biology for many years and co-authored many scientific research journal articles.

NEW HAVEN, CT - (From Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home) Dr. Yi-An Sun, PhD., 84, of New Haven, passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Friday, August 27, 2021.

Born on January 1st, 1937 in Anhui, China, Dr. Sun was a graduate of Beijing University in 1958. Dr. Sun arrived in the US in 1983 as a visiting scholar at the University of California Irvine and the University of Iowa.

Dr. Sun came to Yale University in 1985 as a Visiting Research Scientist in the Molecular Neurobiology section of the School of Medicine. Dr. Sun continued his research career at Yale in the Department of Biology in 1989 where he remained until retirement in 2007.

Dr. Sun was a leading subject matter expert in his field and had co-authored many scientific research journal articles.

Dr. Sun became a US citizen in 1993 while remaining proud of his Chinese heritage.

Dr. Sun was predeceased by his parents Jian Zhong Sun and Zhu Shi Sun, and sister Yi Mei Sun. He is the brother-in-law of Qin Xi Gu and the uncle of Hao Gu, Yuan Gu, and Tao Gu.

He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Xin Zhou, son, Ziran Sun, daughter-in-law, Z. Maria Wang, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Sun and Easton W. Sun.

All may attend a Service of Remembrance held by his family and close friends on Saturday, September 4th from 12 to 2 PM at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden.
