Obituary: Keith Edward Menafee, 59, of New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT - (From Colonial Funeral Home) Keith Edward Menafee, 59, was born on May 29, 1962, in New Haven, CT. To the late Edwin Oliver Sr. and Gladys G Menafee.

Keith was educated in New Haven Public Schools where he graduated from Richard C. Lee High School in 1981.

He worked for Hexaco for many years as a persevering employee. Keith had experienced kidney failure several times and was blessed to receive one by his sister Tracey on March 30th, 2000, which lasted 16 1/2 yrs.

He was an amazing son to his mother whom he adored, loving husband to his wife Maryjane whom he married on September 14, 1996, amazing father to Lakeisha Menafee, Keith and Kevin Taylor and Kiara Preston, best papa, awesome brother, goofy godfather, trustworthy friend, one of the best uncles and supportive stepfather to Marcus and Andre.

Keith enjoyed many things such as working on cars watching movies spending time with family and buying a lot of electronics.

Keith was known to all as a Prankster and loved to have comradery (fun)with others.

Throughout his illness he never complained he continued to live his life to the fullest with the biggest smile anyone could imagine. He was still the same Keith we all knew and loved. His kids were his everything.

He had a different relationship with each one but loved them all the same. Except there was one who stood out and that was his first grand who stole his heart and that was Laniyah whom he called his “Nurse “.

Laniyah stood there with her Papa from the time she was born and played an active role in his life and attended to his needs until he departed this life.

Keith always was grateful for his wife taking good care of him.

Keith leaves to cherish his memories his wife Maryjane Preston, two sons Keith and Kevin Taylor, two daughters Lakeisha Menafee, Kiara Preston all New Haven, CT. (2) sisters Kim (Everett) McCoy of Atlanta GA, Tracey Menafee-Hie (Troy), 1 brother Reginald Menafee (Mashanda) of New Haven, CT, (3) grandchildren, (6) step-grandchildren. (1) godchild Tianna Hie, 1 stepson Marcus Lee (Stephanie) a host of nieces and Nephews, cousins and Friends.

He was predeceased by his father Eddie Oliver Sr., mother Gladys G. Menafee, brother Eddie Oliver Jr., maternal grandparents Roscoe and Lula Menafee and stepson Andre Preston.

A celebration of Keith’s life will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 12pm at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden. Viewing in Colonial from 11am-12pm.
