
On September 23, 2025, Rosemary Mulligan Hartigan, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael Campus. She was predeceased by her husband, James Hartigan, in 1971. She is also predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Kate Mulligan; brothers, Jack, Gene, Jimmy and Tommy; and sister, Veronica. Rosemary was born on December 6, 1933 in Co. Leitrim, Ireland and immigrated to New Haven when she was 18 years old. She was the Store Front Manager for JM Fields until it closed. She then waitressed at Reilly’s in Hamden, Soffer’s Barn and APP’s in West Haven until her retirement. Rosemary was a lifelong member of the Irish American Community Center in East Haven always volunteering for multiple events, especially the yearly Feis. She was an avid Bingo player, loved the casinos and her trip to Vegas. She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Harry) Kennedy, Johanna (Skip Esposito) Hartigan and Rose (Stanley) Wheeler and her sister, Josephine Holland in England. Grandmother of Anne Marie, Kathleen and James Kennedy and Stanley and Michael Wheeler. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Allison, Michael, Bradley, Kiera, Charlotte, Connor, Jack Henry, Natalie and Emilia, as well as countless nieces and nephews.
Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven SATURDAY morning at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
