Oxycontin Kingpin Sentenced For Running Prescription Scheme in New Haven
"Super Dave" is accused of running a scheme to sell oxycontin pills obtained through false prescriptions.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A city man will spend the next 14 years in prison for running a fraudulent oxycontin prescription scheme. David Thompson a.k.a. "Super Dave," 43, of New Haven was sentenced for leading a scheme to sell the pills obtained through false prescriptions in the greater New Haven area.
Investigators say Thompson headed the organization that obtained identifying information of medical practitioners and used the information to create false prescriptions. The group then used "runners" to fill the scripts at pharmacies throughout the state.
Eleven suspects have also been taken into custody. The scheme obtained more than 80,000 pills and investigators found more than 800 false prescriptions.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, nearly all of the runners used state-sponsored medical insurance, so the drugs were billed to Medicaid.
Thompson has been detained since his arrest on Sept. 10. He also faces three years of supervised release.
