NEW HAVEN, CT — A man is facing charges after police said he brought a ghost gun into a New Haven hospital where he was a patient.

Mohamed Hosny, 24, of East Haven, was charged with several counts, including carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of a firearm without serial number following the Friday incident at Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said in a statement.

According to police, Hosny was taken to the hospital after receiving treatment at a mental health facility. During a safety check, police said Hosny changed out of his clothes, wrapped something in his shirt and threw it in the garbage.

According to police, security officers checked the garbage and located a handgun with no serial number. The gun had a round in the chamber, a 30-round loaded magazine and a Glock switch installed, which enables the gun to fire automatically, police said.

After police were called to the hospital around 12:50 p.m., they determined Hosny was recently involved in a firearms incident in East Haven.

Police determined the incident to be isolated and said Hosny did not have plans to assault anyone at the hospital.

Police took Hosny into custody, where he remains on a $150,000 bond.
