Police Identify Woman, 'Homicide' Victim, Found Dead In Cemetery: NHPD

The body of a New Haven woman, 35, was found Friday in Evergreen Cemetery. Investigators suspected it was a homicide; the ME confirmed it.

Police said Monday that, "Detectives arrived on scene and worked around the clock all weekend, conducting interviews and following up on numerous leads. We have collected a significant amount of evidence and the investigation is progressing rapidly."

NEW HAVEN, CT — Friday night just before 8 p.m., cops, responding to a 911 call coming from Evergreen Cemetery, on Grasso Blvd., discovered a 35-year-old New Haven woman dead on a dirt path near the cemetery's crematorium.

Police said that, "based on the number of wounds to Naysha Mendez’s body, it was evident to investigators that this was a homicide."

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of a death was a homicide, confirming investigators' suspicions.
