Schools Superintendent Honored By Latino Education Administrators
Dr. Madeline Negrón was named Assistant Superintendent of the Year by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Dr. Madeline Negrón was named Assistant Superintendent of the Year by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents at its annual awards' event last week in San Antonio, Texas.
Negrón, who's been New Haven Public Schools superintendent since July, was nominated and selected for the award while serving as Acting Deputy Superintendent of Academics and School Leadership for the Hartford Public Schools.
The award recognizes Dr. Negrón for her leadership “by placing the needs of all students with an emphasis on Latino and other historically marginalized youth at the forefront of policy needs” and “by being a voice for the underrepresented”.

“We are delighted that Dr. Negrón’s leadership is being recognized by ALAS,” said the President of the New Haven Board of Education, Yesenia Rivera. “Her demonstrated commitment to advancing educational outcomes for all students was one of the most important reasons we were so eager to bring her to New Haven as superintendent. We offer her our warmest congratulations.”
The New Haven Public Schools enroll more than 19,200 students, of whom 49 percent are of Latino or Hispanic descent and 33 percent Black.

“I am honored by this recognition from ALAS,” Negrón said. “A major goal throughout my career has been to ensure that students from marginalized communities are able to take full advantage of the opportunities that education can provide throughout their lives. We have much work to do in New Haven and throughout Connecticut, and I look forward to ongoing collaboration with our civic and educational leaders.”
Dr. Negrón has over 25 years of public education experience, comprised of elementary and secondary instruction, administrative site leadership, as well as experience as a faculty adjunct in the Educational Leadership Department at Southern Connecticut State University. She began her career as a bilingual education teacher and has worked as an assistant principal, principal, central office administrator and as a senior executive level administrator.
The ALAS 20th Anniversary National Education Summit runs from October 4 to 6, 2023, in San Antonio.
