Woman Faces Firearms Charges After Gun In Bag Dumped In Yard, Then Retrieved By Her, Then Found By Cops: PD
In Fair Haven Monday cops chased a man as a loaded gun was ditched in a yard, then retrieved by Yolanda N. Santiago, 31, now in custody: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police said it was around 6:30 p.m. Monday, when officers on patrol in Fair Haven "saw a guy sitting on a dirt bike speaking to a group of people in the area of Woolsey and James streets."
New Haven police officer Balthazar Rivera approached a man who attempted to start the dirt bike but was unable to, so he fled on foot. As officers were securing the dirt bike, they were told a man "just threw a bag with a gun in it into a nearby yard."
Officers spoke with witnesses who said they saw Yolanda Narvaez Santiago, 31, of New Haven, "Going into the yard, remove the bag, and then move it to a different yard."

Police said officers ultimately located the gun, an extended magazine and 20 rounds of live ammunition. The man was not located, but Santiago was taken into custody and charged with illegal carrying of a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, and interfering with police. She was held on $250,000 bond.
