Woman Fatally Struck By Car While Crossing Street, ID Released: New Haven Police

"It appears that the vehicle went through a red light and struck..." the pedestrian, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Mary Claire Hartman, 56, of New Haven, was fatally struck by a vehicle early Saturday, police said.

At 12:02 a.m., police responded to the area of Chapel and Temple streets on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Police found Hartman in the roadway suffering from injuries, police said. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died, police said.

The driver of the car remained at the scene, police said.

"Video surveillance was obtained and it shows the vehicle traveling west on Chapel Street approaching Temple Street," police said. "It appears that the vehicle went through a red light and struck Hartman, who was crossing Chapel Street from north to south on foot"
