Women, 27, Charged In 2024 'Near Fatal' Car V. Pedestrian Crash: NHPD
The 63-year-old victim's injuries while "not fatal" were so severe "he has not recovered and remains hospitalized," police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — On a mid-November morning in 2024, New Haven police officers were called to a car versus pedestrian hit-and-run in the area of Chapel and Temple streets. When police got there, they found a 63-year-old Wallingford man lying in the street, suffering from significant injuries, police spokesperson officer Christian Bruckhart said.
He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment and while "not fatal, he suffered severe injuries from which he has not recovered and remains hospitalized," Bruckhart said.
Witnesses to the crash told investigators the car hit the man while he was crossing Chapel Street, then drove away on Temple Street, Bruckhart said.

The investigation was conducted by the NHPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit and officer Brandon Way, the lead investigator, was able to secure an arrest warrant for Jamira Perry, 27, of New Haven, Bruckhart said. Perry was charged with evading responsibility resulting in serious injury, third-degree assault/assault of an elderly person, and other motor vehicle charges.
Perry was taken into custody on Wednesday "without incident," Bruckhart said. She was arraigned at court in New Haven today.
