Workforce Summit at CT State Gateway Highlights Careers in Energy and Water Management
Approximately one-third of employees in the water sector will be eligible for retirement in the next ten years.

NEW HAVEN, CT - The first bi-annual Workforce Career & Innovation Summit at CT State Gateway on Thursday, November 13 will feature an exploration into Energy and Water Public Utility Management and Operations Careers.
With a substantial percentage of employees of the water sector eligible to retire in the next ten years, coupled with advanced technologies, the summit will highlight the challenges of recruiting, training, and retaining employees. Curriculum, careers in the fields of energy and water public utilities, and achievements in the field will be the main topics of the half-day program, which will begin with a networking breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Curran Community Center, Room N100, at the 20 Church Street, New Haven campus. Students who are considering careers in energy and public utilities are encouraged to attend.
Thomas Tyler, director of facilities for MDC, and Ted Novicki, senior director of regulatory affairs for Avangrid, will be the guest speakers. The event will conclude with a discussion involving panelists Dr. Carol Stewart, professor of management at Southern Connecticut State University, Professor Wes Winterbottom, faculty member in water management at CT State Gateway Campus, Student Lucas McFarland, and Gateway Alumnus Michael Anderson.

Dr. Shiang-Kwei Wang, P.h.D., CT State Gateway Campus President, established the bi-annual event to focus on new developments and emerging technologies impacting the state workforce. The events will take place in the fall and spring semesters.
