Yale Inaugurates 24th President With Community Events, Ceremony

Inauguration Weekend events for Yale, New Haven communities, culminate in Sunday ceremony attended by reps from universities globally.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Yale University will inaugurate Maurie McInnis as its 24th president with a series of Inauguration Weekend events for the Yale and New Haven communities, culminating in an installation ceremony on Sunday, April 6 that will be attended by representatives from universities around the world.

New Haven Community Days

New Haven Community Days, led by the Yale Alumni Association as part of its annual Day of Service and United Way of Greater New Haven, will include volunteer activities in the New Haven community, on Yale’s campus, and in the global alumni community and will celebrate the important connections between Yale and the City of New Haven.

Wednesday, April 2
Gather New Haven, Ward Street Farm Community Garden Clean Up

9-11 a.m.
Activities will include preparing the farm for the growing season by raking out garden beds and creating walkable paths in between beds by laying down mulch.

Yale Community Kitchen
84 Broadway
2:45-5:15 p.m.
Open to the Yale community through Yale Day of Service. Join the Yale student-led and campus-based Yale Community Kitchen (YCK) to assist with food preparation and meal service. YCK serves food donated by Yale Dining on Friday and Saturday evenings to the Greater New Haven community.

New Haven School Readiness Centers: Read Aloud
Multiple locations
9-10:15 a.m.
Read aloud to preschoolers at the YMCA, St. Aedan’s Preschool, and Farnam Nursery School in New Haven. Books will be provided by United Way of Greater New Haven and left in the classroom for children and teachers to enjoy.

As part of the festivities surrounding Maurie McInnis’s inauguration as Yale’s 24th president, the university will be hosting and promoting a series of open houses and special tours throughout campus and in the local community.

Friday, April 4
The Yale Farm

Tours beginning at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Learn about how the Yale Sustainable Food Program brings classroom lessons to life with innovative teaching at the Yale Farm. Event will feature tours of the site, a showcase of academic work on food and agriculture, Yale's famous wood-oven pizza, and live music.

Installation Ceremony, Sunday, April 6
Woolsey Hall, 500 College St.

A bagpiper, a mariachi band, and steel drums will join the Concert Band, Glee Club, and pipe organ at the installation ceremony for Maurie McInnis.


Note: College Street will be closed between Grove and Elm streets (and thus no accessing Wall Street from College to Temple streets) from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
