Yale Police Warn Campus About 'Concerning Trend In Criminal Activity'

Yale police said over the weekend, there were "multiple reports of vehicle damage, car thefts, and thefts from vehicles involving youth."

NEW HAVEN, CT — Yale police told students and staff about a "concerning trend in criminal activity" over the past weekend. Via email and the LiveSafe app, police said there were "multiple reports of vehicle damage, car thefts, and thefts from vehicles involving youth," the message from Yale police reads. The reports came largely from the areas of York Street near the Medical School, and along Winchester Avenue, Howe, Canal, Prospect, Highland, and Munson streets.

"Of particular concern were two incidents where occupied security vehicles were targeted. One of the security vehicles was rammed by a gray sedan. In another incident, a passenger of a gray sedan damaged another occupied security vehicle with a screwdriver," police noted.

The incidents, reported at various times throughout the day, have happened across campus, but particularly in areas mentioned above.

Yale police said that there will be "increased police presence," on campus, based on the reports.

"We encourage all community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Yale Police," the message reads, and advises students and staff to "secure your belongings: lock your vehicles, roll up your windows, and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight."
